Jeff was another great vendor to work with. He is also somewhat young, but has like 8 years of experience. He made theeffort to really get to know us and our style and he really came through. When someone requested something on our “donot play unless requested” list – he came to us to let us know and asked if it was okay to play. He really kept the receptionrolling and if the dance floor wasn’t very full he would mix up the music and play something that would get peopledancing. He was always prompt and well-prepared each time we met with him and he brought another guy with him to thereception to help out. They both offered to make us a plate of food and they worked with the caterers to take care ofanything that needed to be done (moving the head table, cake table, etc). One of my friends did tell me that he didn’t havea song she requested – but it was “On the Wings of Love” (as a joke) – so that was probably a blessing in disguise. Oh – and it’s only $450 for 5 hours of music. If you don’t have a DJ yet – please talk to Jeff! 816-215-0213 or tamadrums1@hotmail.com.

A+ ~~ Rick charges more than a lot of DJs do, but for me it was totally worth it. He and Darin did so much more than just play music at the reception. Rick helped coordinate the entire reception both in the planning stages and on the day of the event. During the planning stage we spent a lot of time talking about our vision for the night so that he could plan their involvement accordingly. He also had a lot of great ideas for us. He was incredibly organized and never forgot details between one meeting and the next, even though there were sometimes a couple of months in between, simply because he kept meticulous notes. At the reception, he helped keep us on track with our planned timeline but was never pushy about it. He was completely willing to be flexible about any last-second changes. He was also the one vendor that I never once worried about. He was the only one who I felt absolutely sure would either be there and do his job correctly, or do everything he possibly could to find a suitable replacement. I really can't say enough good things about him!

A+ ~~ He is a work colleague (which could have been scary, but...) and did absolutely awesome! We told him of specific songs we wanted played and songs we didn't want played at all and he performed flawlessly! We also were not interested in a DJ who liked to hear his own voice and talk the whole time and Troy was perfect! Very affordable too! PM for questions/info!

This DJ came with the package I purchased at Meadowview Gardens. We had Angela do our wedding. She did a pretty good job, but could have been more vocal. I don't really recall her talking on the microphone at all. The music was good though!

Kevin Bilyeu

A ~~ Kevin was another vendor that made everything easy on us. He was very inexpensive to use at The Pavilion because they already have the sound equipment (we only paid for his time). We sent him a must play/do not play list the week of the wedding and he stuck to it pretty well. The only complaint is that we gave him a pretty extensive list of songs we wanted him to play and he didn't play them all. He played a few (literally only 2 or 3) that were not our style at all and the dance floor emptied. I just wish he would have stuck to the list because we know what our guests like.

Patrick Brown

used by wilsontobe

From: wilsontobe
A ~~ Patrick showed up on time, played great music, announced everything we asked him to, and kept the flow of the party going strong. Everyone had a great time. I didn’t give him a play list, just a list of songs I’d prefer he didn’t play. Of course, I told him that if someone requested one of the songs that it was fine if he played it, but we escaped the night without the chicken dance. He had a great library of songs, and seemed to have every song that family and friends requested. He was very easy to work with and did a great job.

David Campbell

used by MrsDerek

From: MrsDerek
B+ ~~ David did great at announcing and was ready to do what we needed to keep the night moving. He did start off, however, playing a lot of songs that weren’t on my play list. One of the girls just had to just request that he play more songs from my list and he did! He also started to play the wrong song during the garter removal, but that was quickly corrected as well. Overall though, he did great and most people said that he did a good job.

DJ Used: Rob Harper

A+ ~~ Rob did an excellent job getting the crowd up and going. The majority of my family is pretty conservative but he was able to get them up and going. He welcomed everyone as they arrived at the reception and even did a good job at remembering important names like my grandparents! Total cost is $650 and he started at 5 and ended at 11:30. He is very accomadating and willing to do whatever you ask of him.
From: cmsucarebear

DJ Used: Chris O

B ~~ Chris had that "Radio announcer" voice. He was really good. The only reason I gave him a B was because it wasn't anything so spectacular that it stuck out to me. I felt bad for the poor guy, my younger cousins kept requesting crazy songs, The Macarena, The chicken Dance, and crazy stuff. I didn't have a do not play list ,because frankly I didn't really care. He did my ceremony music as well and did a great job with the song changes. Scott with Complete Music went out of his way to find my ceremony songs, and he came through. I would hire Complete Again, but maybe use a Different DJ. Our crowd wasn't the Tear up the dance floor kind of crowd and we could have probably used someone a little more mellow.
From: Jen748

DJ Used: Chris O

A++++++++++++++++++++ ~~ Chris is one awesome guy! I just totally loved him-he and I meshed very well-I am overly anal and had provided him a list of want played and don’t want played and he stuck to it-as much as I can remember! :) He was awesome!!!

DJ Used: Sean

B- ~~ I could have given them lower, but nothing on the day was ruined because of him. DH asked for him to CALL him if any of the songs didn't work. Sean emailed him back, and therefore DH never knew that he didn't have the song for the Mother/son dance or bouquet toss. He did stay late, until the end, with a good attitude. He had said at first that he didn't even have our first dance song, but somehow came up with it after freaking us out the first time.
From: ktgolfs

DJ Used: AJ

A ~~ They did a great job and we got a good deal for having an off season event. For under $500 we got 5 hours of service. AJ was our DJ and he was really fun. We met the Tuesday before the wedding to go over specifics and any dos and don'ts. He dressed in a tuxedo and had lots of fun ideas. He even brought hula hoops! The pictures from that were really cute.
From: lawgalkc

DJ Used: Jimmy

A ~~ My sister owns the Springfield branch of Complete Music so it was "expected" for me to use the KC branch for my wedding. I had no problem with this though as they are a great company and my favorite DJ just came back to town, Jimmy. Jimmy did an awesome job of keeping the dance floor packed all night. He also did a great job of dealing with my sister and two other DJ's trying to tell him what to play all night! There are several great DJ's with CM. I recommend going to a bridal fair or one of their Meet the DJ nights to find the one that is best for you. I've seen many of them in action since we used them when I worked at Benjamin Ranch. AJ is one of their most popular, and did a great job at SIL's wedding.
From: mothchick

DJ Used: Chris O

A+ ~~ Chris was great. I was kind of concerned initally because half of my family is Southern Baptist and doesn't dance. He was great and had the entire dance floor hopping the whole night.
From: snoopy

DJ Used: Carolyn Martini

A+ ~~ Carolyn was very fun and did everything I asked her to do. She was with me all night to make sure I was comfortable and to make sure the night was going as I planned it. We met before the wedding to discuss details and she stuck to everything I asked. Even when my crazy relatives requested the chicken dance she didn't play it! Our guests loved her energy and had a good time.
From: StephanieandStefan

DJ Used: Chris O

A+ ~~ Chris was fantastic. He acted as my coordinator when no one could find her. He made me feel completely assured about the evening's schedule and he was flexible. He stuck to the predetermined music agenda, and he even stayed way after the scheduled time while my parents were chatting with friends and helping the Longview staff clean.
From: trayhay

DJ Used: Chris Runck

Even with all the drama involving Chris O., I would highly recommend Complete Music! (email me at trace_face at hotmail.com if you want the details -- too long to include here :-) Scott and Wade are absolutely awesome and Scott showed up at our reception just to make sure “everything was going okay!” As for Chris Runck, given the fact that he found out about a week before our wedding that he was going to be our DJ, he was awesome! He played all the songs we asked for, and whenever someone requested a song that was on our “do not play list” he would come and talk to either me or DH before playing it! I would HIGHLY recommend him! As for why it’s a A- instead of an A+: the main reason would be that my mom was introduced as “John” instead of “Jan” -- she was a little upset about it, especially since people who didn’t know her kept calling her “John” all night! And then of course there was the whole Chris O. debacle, so I just could give them anything too high! But, I would totally recommend both Complete Music and Chris Runck to anyone!

Cost: $550 for 5 hours (Sunday discount, I think his fee is normally $700).

C ~~ DJ Darin's personality is great, he's not cheesy,in fact he was pretty quiet during the reception HOWEVER he played the wrong song for DH and his mom's dance and then SKIPPED the bouquet and garter toss even though we had songs picked out for them and everything. Unfortunately we didn't notice this oversight until way too late to do anything (guess we were having too much fun) but it really ticked us off.

FABULOUS FABULOUS vendor!!! We are so happy with Brad, it’s hard to decide where to start!! He was just amazing! So easy to work with. He met us at our house for our initial meeting (july 05) and we knew right away that he was the right choice (if it hadn’t been for an unexpected car expense we would have booked him right away!) He met with us again a few weeks before our wedding to go over the details. He asked us lots of questions about ourselves about growing up, our families etc and then used those things to give sort of a “Love Story” of us before we were introduced! It was so much fun. And then at the end he said “He was born First Middle Last on Month Day, Year. She was born First Middle Maiden on Month Day, Year. And now, on this day, July 28, 2006 – they have become Mr. and Mrs. First and First Married Name!” It gave me goosebumps!!!!
From: shonnaluvsjd
Brad is the coolest. Another realie recommendation that I probably never would have found without the board. He kept things moving with the first dance, parent/kid dance, cake cutting, toasts, etc. After that...it was on! Of course the dance floor was a bit slow in the beginning, but after about an hour when everyone had some drinks in them...it was packed for the rest of the night. I didn’t give Brad a 'must play' list, but I did give him a few 'do not plays.' Instead...we gave him an idea of the genres of music that we like and he rolled with it. My step daughter and I always sing "Big Girls Don’t Cry" by Fergie at the top of our lungs whenever it comes on in the car, so I asked him to play it for us. He didn’t have it, but being the brilliant man that he is...he took advantage of the hotel’s free wi-fi and immediately downloaded it for us. He had it playing within a half hour. I would recommend Brad without hesitation!

Frontline Entertainment

We loved having a band at the reception, however the dance floor did get a little dead during their breaks. Our guests loved the band as well and they kept everyone dancing when they were playing. We booked the band through Frontline Entertainment. Kerry at Frontline was very helpful as we were finding a band that we liked- we had no idea where to start and he sent us a CD with demos from about 10 bands and sent us the prices for all bands in KC. I’d highly recommend working with Kerry to find a band.

A ~~ This is the "sister band of Atlantic Express. Similar musicians and song list. We hired a few extra musicians and negotiated to have them play a full four hours without break (musicians, especially vocalists) rotated so that they could have a bit of time off. They played a longer set than expected. Had our guests out dancing from the minute they arrived until well after 1am (even the grandparents stuck around dancing until after 11!). Would highly recommend.

B- ~~ We hooked the iPod up the rented sound equipment and put a couple family members in charge. They were a little unprepared for this responsibility, and there was some confusion and a few technical difficulties on their part. A+ ~~ Debbie is more than a dj, she is a wedding planner at heart. She was so organized and on top on everything. John at Club 1000 got excited when he found out I went with her because he said she's so great the reception coordinator ends up doing minimal. She played fabulous music and really understood with jazzy feel we wanted to have over dinner. During the 2-week before meeting she gave us wonderful suggestions and let us know if she didn't think something would work. I just can't say enough wonderful things about her. She is the only vendor I had that called on the 6-month, 3-month and 1-month marks just to make sure everything was going well and just to touch base.
From: KS*sparkler*
Debbie was great about setting up meetings and making sure that she knew what I wanted ahead of time. She let me pick all of the songs that I wanted and stuck to my do not play list that was over a page long! She is super-organized and voluteered to help me with wedding details. She was on-time for everything and I didn't have to worry a bit. She kept the reception running smoothly, announcing the cake cutting, toasts, dances, and tosses at the appropriate times. She was a tiny bit cheesier than I would have liked, but I know it was an attempt to keep the party going. She's a bit more expensive than some DJ's ($850), but it was worth it for the peace-of-mind.

A ~~ Adam kept great communication during the whole planning process and the band kept everyone on the dancefloor the night of the reception! A lot of my guests had never been to a reception with a live band and loved it! It was well worth the money (one of my few splurges) They often have shows all of the KC area (once we saw them live it sealed the deal!), so go check them out and let them know I sent you!
From: Rockstar79
A+ ~~ Adam and his crew were great. They do lots of gigs at Club 1000 so they knew what they were doing. They played all the songs I requested, and also got all of our intro/cake cutting/first dance/mother-son etc songs right, so that was good. They also let me sing with them TWICE which was sweet. At the end all the BMs did a booty shakin contest to "Doin' the Butt" which was also a blast. They kept the dance floor packed all night... there was barely room to spin around! Love it!

B ~~ I was somewhat concerned about this vendor as they started getting some bad reviews right after I booked them. I had a hard time getting a hold of them on the phone a few weeks before the wedding, but within an hour of leaving a voice mail message that said "I expect a call back as I am paying you for a service that includes a planning consultation," I received a call back. One thing they promise is that they will have any song you request so long as the request is in their hands at least 2 weeks prior to the wedding. They had our list 21 days in advance and still did not have 2 songs we requested, L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole and Atomic Dog by George Clinton. I will admit that Atomic Dog is somewhat of an obscure song, but they did not let us know they were unable to locate those two songs until the DJ came up to introduce himself prior to announcing the wedding party at the reception. Initially he asked us to come up with alternative songs off of the top of our heads. But because of the bad reviews Light It Up had received from other brides, I was prepared and had burned a CD of all of the important song (ceremony music, entrance, cake, first, etc). So that was taken care of. And really the DJ did a great job. He played a good mix of songs and kept everyone on the dance floor. Really the DJ should get an A and the company a C for their lack of communication and failure to fulfill promises.
From: jamienryan
DO NOT USE Light It Up. They have a nice guy handling the business end (Pete), but do not believe that he will be the one showing up to your reception. We instead had a very inexperienced and shy DJ that had to be told when to do everything. They "guarantee" to have songs and then don't follow through - they were even missing some of the songs we had listed for events like cake cutting and our last dance. All this crap and they didn't even bother to respond to my emails, voicemails, or letters which, by the way, were not asking for refunds but simply asking for a chance to speak with them about the matter. If this doesn't convince you not to use them, please page me on the KC board and I will let you know about the rest!
From: ToddysGirl
Our DJ=C ~~ Light It Up has several different DJ's. We had been working with Pete and loved him and were hoping to get him for our reception. We ended up with another guy (I'll have to find out what his name was since I can't remember) but were not very happy with him. He played too many slow songs, looked bored while he was sitting there and the first song he played after all the official dances were done was “The Humpty Dance”. Now, I like that song as much as the next guy, but not as a get everyone-on-the-dance-floor song. I feel it’s a little inappropriate to play early in the night when the older folks are there and want to enjoy a dance or two. I had to tell him to stop playing so much country too. I recommend Pete, if you can get him.

B+ ~~ I’m sure that he did a better job than my former DJ would have done. The music was great and anything I asked him to do he did. He did have some equipment problems; unfortunately one of those times was right when I got to the front of the aisle with my father. We had some nice feedback. Danny Hass ~~ A++ ~~ I read recommendations on the kn**, met with Danny, and decided to book him. He’s laid back, but organized and very detail-oriented, which I really appreciated. I gave him a pretty specific play list and I saw his wife had it printed off and was using it at the reception. For our First Dance, etc. songs, I had my husband burn a CD because Danny and I had talked and I know he didn’t have the specific versions I’d requested. When we arrived at the reception, the files didn’t burn property and the CD didn’t work. From what I understand, Danny sent his wife out to buy the stuff we were missing and had it ready when the time arrived. (I missed all of this but got the story later.) We were so appreciative of their help and all their hard work to make the reception a success. When speeches got too long -winded (some really terrible ones) he cut in with the music and kept it light and fun for everyone.

A ~~ He did a great job and kept everyone on the dance floor all night! He was great with making sure we were hearing everything we wanted to hear and checking with us on songs that were requested, but that we hadn't wanted played. I would hire him again in a heartbeat! D ~~ We had seen Rusty do a few receptions and he was GREAT! I'd also heard great things about him on the Knot. All of a sudden, two days before the wedding, he said we were using Tony instead. I thought nothing of it and figured he was just as good. Tony was supposed to announce our entrance and cake cutting and let everyone know not to eat until we cut the cake - we were going to just have one big line for the food and cake since we were doing everything so late in the evening - figured the older people would want to leave right after we cut the cake so we'd do it right away.

Well, he announced us - but you couldn't hear him because his equipment kept screwing up - and he kept calling DH by the wrong name!!! We walked into our reception and most of the food was already gone! So, we told hime we'll just cut the cake....I looked over at him, ready for him to announce the cake cutting and he was playing with his equipment paying no attention to us! We cut the cake and he was supposed to announce the toasts - once again, we looked over and he was playing with his equipment. Our first dance song kept skipping. He played a few of our "absolutely do not play" songs and hardly any of our "must play" songs until the end of the night. He was playing this really soft elevator music for the beginning of the night and people started to leave. My friend went up to him and said "What is this S***?" And he said it was a song requested by the bartender!!! WTF!!! The bartender was set up in the lobby! He wasn't even near the music - why would he request a song - better yet, why would the DJ play something requested by the freakin' bartender??? My oh so calm groom had a little chat with him and told him to remember who was paying him. He said "I'm just trying to keep everyone happy" If you look out on the dance floor and see a bunch of 20-something women dancing - don't play slow elevator music!!! It's not rocket science!!!

A ~~ Brad is a friend of mine, so I had no doubt that he would do a great job, and he did. He was a club DJ while he was in school, and now does weddings and parties just to keep his hands in the business that he loves. He played some jazz-type music during cocktails and while people were eating, and then kept everyone dancing for several hours. He spins on turntables, and even started mixing once people really got into the dancing spirit! No cheesiness, no group dances, just great music!
From: DrNelson
A+ ~~ I knew from the first day I met Brad that he was going to mesh well with us and our families. He's funny, easygoing, and just a really nice down-to-earth guy. He owns the business himself, and is the only DJ, which is nice. You know you're going to get him barring any catastrophes. He was fantastic. He showed up on time and dressed very professionally (suit and tie). The dance floor was packed all night long (even with it being exceptionally hot in there). He played a wide variety, and tried to cater to everyone's requests. He did a great job with our request list, and improvised well where we needed it. He's very affordable and well worth it. My only complaint would be that he's a little hard to get ahold of at times, but it never became a huge problem for me.
From: madgey28
A ~~ Brad had a hard crowd at my wedding and still had people dancing most of the night. Periodically, he would test a song and it didn't quite work, but generally, he did a great job. We were very happy with how he announced us and felt that overall we would highly recommend him.

A ~~ Brad rocked! He was really easy to work with. I didn't have the time or energy to come up with a playlist, so I just let him take over and he did a FABULOUS job! He played off the crowd and seriously kept the dance floor full all night long. He did a great job with introducing us and letting the guests know what was going on (when to eat, etc.) He even made a really sweet tribute to my mom, who passed away in April. He has an extensive lighting and video system that goes with his service and it was really cool. A+ ~~ Again, this was very important to me. Although I didn’t really have a lot to do with it since my Dad booked him and followed up with everything. I think my Dad knew him so he got us a good deal but their prices are still pretty reasonable if you’re set on having a live band. I had some contemporary choices that the band couldn’t play and a week before the wedding Steve called my Dad to ask if he would be willing to pay another $100 to put in because there was some pretty good guitar player coming into town who tours all over the world and he could play all the songs we wanted if he was there. Sure enough, I heard the guitar player with his red hot guitar and fast fingers and he was amazing. They had a male and female singer and even played “Good Golly Miss Molly” twice!!! Obviously, a special request for yours truly! We thanked them profusely after the last dance. I highly recommend them.

A- ~~ Scott was great. He was a recommendation from our DOC. He is NOT cheesy, but it is very professional. When we met with him at his home, he always offered us a drink and was very cool. He only did one thing that was slightly annoying: When we met, we told him two songs that he absolutely must play and he put two stars by them. Well, months later, he apparently thought that two stars meant play them twice (not in a row -- about 45 minutes apart). Needless to say that was a bit of a buzzkill.

C+/B- ~~ I don't really know how to classify the service I received. He is very nice, but seemed to need WAAAY too much direction on what songs to play. He sends this play list out to you like three weeks before your wedding with all of his most requested songs. He will only play what you check on this list unless he runs out of stuff to play. So like 1 week before the wedding DH and I are making an excel spreadsheet compiling all the extras songs (ones not on his list) to play.

I would have preferred not to have to do this. To top it off he played "the train" when half the people had already left, and we are not "the train" crowd. He also spent WAAAY too long explaining how to do the electric slide....its the freakin electric slide, it's been done at every wedding since I was in Junior High.....if the older folks don't get it they will catch on, the thing is totally repetitious!

To sum it up, I was disappointed....but he wasn't super expensive, he showed up on time, and I didn't have to mess with renting speakers and finding someone to run my Ipod playlist so it was ok. In a pinch he would work out, but I think if you can find someone else you would be better off.

A+++++ ~~ He was awesome!!! He's my parents' neighbor and has his own Christian CD out but he does DJ stuff on the side. He was professional and fun all at the same time!
